Copper is a reddish metal, forgeable and drawable: it is the best conductor of electricity. Humans knew it earlier than iron. Between the Stone and Iron ages there was a long Bronze Age which ended just in the Middle Ages. Copper was already known by the ancient Egyptians. Bronze sculptures were cast even in the 5th century B.C. It got its name by the first copper mines in Cyprus. Christopher Columbus used copper plates to protect his ships from algae attack. The Statue of Liberty in New York is formed of about 80 tons of copper.
