Attic cladding

An attic is a low wall or raised edge of a building's peripheral wall that extends above roof level. It has an aesthetic, structural and protective function. Attic cladding is a process in which a protective sheet metal cover is installed on it.

Significance of an attic cladding

Like chimney cladding, attic cladding brings many advantages:

  • Protection against water and moisture

Sheet metal protection prevents rainwater from leaking in the roof structure and attic masonry. It thus prevents mould, corrosion and disruption of building statics.

  • Extension of a roof service life

Cladding protects the attic against frost, snow, UV radiation and wind, thereby extending its service life. It also prevents freezing and cracking masonry in winter.

  • Water drainage from a roof

Proper cladding helps direct water away from the building, minimizing the risk of damage to the facade and roof. Of course, a high-quality gutter system is essential.

  • Aesthetic look

Cladding can be made of various materials and in more colour versions. It is thus possible to visually complete the overall design of the building.

Materials for attic cladding

The most commonly used materials are as follows:

  • Galvanized sheet metal – affordable, resistant to corrosion.
  • Aluminium – light, non-corroding, resistant to weather conditions.
  • Titanium zinc – durable material with high corrosion resistance.
  • Copper – luxurious material with long service life and a higher price.
  • Stainless steel – extremely resistant but more expensive choice.

Attic cladding is an important step for protecting the roof, preventing the penetration of rainwater and ensuring a long service life of materials.
